Research Interests: The need for improving current microscopes is still ongoing, especially in regards to biological imaging. When using epifluorescence or confocal microscopes, the sample one images can sometimes be too dim or would get photo-bleached too soon for acquisition. In our current microscope-development project, we install a “photon enhancement” setup that would increase an image’s pixel intensity by more than 50% when using the same, excitation power. This should increase the image’s signal-to-noise ratio (SNR or S/N) and could potentially do it with less photo-bleaching or photo-toxicity to the sample.
