Research Interests: I am interested primarily in molecular structural biology, and developing, modifying, and applying microscopy techniques, in the pursuit of understanding protein structures and interactions. Currently, my project is focused on gaining a more complete understanding of the mechanisms by which the pre-40S and pre-60S ribosomal subunits are exported through the nuclear pore complex (NPC). These subunits are two of the largest cellular cargoes to transport through the NPC, and given their extreme importance to nearly all cellular functions, understanding how their export is facilitated, and if any conformational changes are required, is therefore valuable information to gain.
